eamonEamon Sawada-Tse returned recently from his very first trip to our nation’s capital in Ottawa, Ontario after receiving a gold medal from His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston during the Governor General’s History Award ceremonies at Rideau Hall.

The award was presented to Eamon to recognize his outstanding achievement as the first place winner of Kayak Kids’ Illustrated History Challenge for his work on “The Gold Rushes of British Columbia.”

In this fascinating illustrated history of BC’s gold rush era, Eamon explores the trials and tribulations of settlers, the entrepreneurial pursuits of gold rush-era women, the impact on local First Nations peoples, and how these gold rushes ultimately led to the formation of what we now call British Columbia.

You can read his incredible story here.

Congratulations on your achievement, Eamon!
