For enrolled learners, SelfDesign provides access to a variety of software subscriptions. This allows families to stretch their Learning Resource funds a bit further and gives learners access to dynamic learning opportunities they might not have otherwise.

Subscription are popular! In 2016 we created more than 3800 personalized accounts for learners. This year, with the availability of a one-time Ministry of Education resources grant, SelfDesign has purchased access to more software and will create more accounts than ever, with several exciting new offerings: BC Exam Bank (exam prep), GoZen (mindfulness, coping with anxiety), KnowBC (BC encyclopedia), Mystery Science (kitchen science experiments at home), National Film Board of Canada (Secondary Campus), Prodigy Math Game and Tales2Go (downloadable audio books).

Subscriptions cover a wide variety of learning areas, including core learning areas such as literacy, numeracy, science and humanities as well as current events, art, film, coding/programming, and health and well-being. Many subscriptions with individual logins (Currents4Kids, Dreambox Math, Explore Learning Gizmos, IXL Math and Language, Mathletics/Spellodrome, My BrainPOP, Prodigy Math, Reading Eggs, Storyboard, Tynker Coding, Typing) allow educators to see learner progress and share results with families. Several subscriptions allow parents to sign up on their own for progress updates on their children. In all cases, subscriptions align with our community values of equitability, access, following our learning passions and having a ton of fun while doing so!

Subscriptions are available to enroled learners inside the SelfDesign Learning Platform’s “SelfDesign Library”. If your family is not currently enroled with SelfDesign, you can apply to enrol here.
