Your privacy is critically important to us. At SelfDesign we have a few fundamental principles:

  • We don’t ask you for, or share your personal information with anyone, except to comply with the law, develop our programs, or protect our rights.
  • We don’t store personal information on our servers unless required for the on-going operation of one of our services.

Below is our privacy policy which incorporates these goals:

SelfDesign Learning Foundation (“SelfDesign”) operates one website for our BC programs: selfdesign.org. It is SelfDesign’s policy to respect your privacy regarding any information we may collect while operating our websites.

Website Visitors

Like most website operators, SelfDesign collects non-personally-identifying information of the sort that web browsers and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, language preference, referring site, and the date and time of each visitor request. SelfDesign’s purpose in collecting non-personally identifying information is to better understand how SelfDesign’s visitors use its websites.

SelfDesign also collects potentially personally-identifying information like Internet Protocol (IP) addresses for logged in users and for users leaving comments on our sites. SelfDesign only discloses logged in user and commenter IP addresses under the same circumstances that it uses and discloses personally-identifying information as described below, except that blog commenter IP addresses and social media identities are visible and disclosed to the administrators of the site where the comment was left.

Compliance with Canadian Anti-Spam Legislation

SelfDesign will never send you spam email. The Canadian anti-spam legislation, in effect July 1, 2014, requires that all organizations who send electronic communications to Canadians provide an opt-in regime prior to sending electronic communications. SelfDesign will only send electronic communications (including emails, text messages, and tweets) to those Canadians who have provided their consent to receive electronic communications.

Gathering of Personally-Identifying Information

Certain visitors to SelfDesign’s websites choose to interact with SelfDesign in ways that require SelfDesign to gather personally-identifying information. The amount and type of information that SelfDesign gathers depends on the nature of the interaction. For example, we ask visitors who sign up to receive our newsletter to provide their name and email address. Those who engage in transactions with SelfDesign – by purchasing content from the SelfDesign store, for example – are asked to provide additional information, including as necessary the personal and financial information required to process those transactions. In each case, SelfDesign collects such information only insofar as is necessary or appropriate to fulfill the purpose of the visitor’s interaction with SelfDesign. SelfDesign does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below. And visitors can always refuse to supply personally-identifying information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain website-related activities.

Aggregated Statistics

SelfDesign may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its websites. For instance, SelfDesign may use screened spam to help identify spam. SelfDesign may display this information publicly or provide it to others, however, SelfDesign does not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.

Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information

SelfDesign Learning Foundation will only use, disclose and retain personal information for the purpose for which it was collected unless the individual has otherwise consented, or when its use, disclosure or retention is required or permitted by law.

If you are a member of the SelfDesign community or have provided us with your email address, SelfDesign may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new features, solicit your feedback, or just keep you up to date with what’s going on with SelfDesign and our programs. SelfDesign takes all measures reasonably necessary to protect against the unauthorized access, use, alteration or destruction of potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information.

Cookies

A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. SelfDesign uses cookies to help SelfDesign identify and track visitors, their usage of SelfDesign’s websites, and their website access preferences. SelfDesign visitors who do not wish to have cookies placed on their computers should set their browsers to refuse cookies before using SelfDesign’s websites, with the drawback that certain features of SelfDesign’s websites may not function properly without the aid of cookies.
