Corrina is excited to introduce your kiddos to fun, hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) activities as our new HomeLearners Network (HLN) guide! Our guides love creating inclusive online learning experiences so your kid can learn freely, at their own comfort level and pace, and with tons of encouragement.
We can’t wait to learn a thing or two from Corrina, who has undergraduate degrees in Disability Studies and Sociology, a Bachelor of Education specializing in Urban Education, and additional qualifications in Special Education.
“I really enjoyed my Urban Education specialization as it has given me unique insights into the challenges learners in urban settings face and the tools to ensure that my own teaching practices are equitable and truly serve the communities I work in,” says Corrina.
For the last four years, Corrina has been working in a variety of classroom settings with kids in kindergarten through grade eight and is currently an on-call teacher in her local school district. She has many years of experience in urban and special education, working tirelessly to support learners of varying backgrounds and abilities.
“I spent six years working as an inclusion counsellor and later an inclusion coordinator at my local day camp,” she says. “In this role, I collaborated with parents and their children to identify their unique needs and abilities and ensure that camp was a successful experience for them. It was through the camp that I developed my love of and passion for inclusive education.”
Corrina loves the outdoors, marine biology, playing team sports, watercolour painting and hiking in the forest. Finding cool shells and rocks on the beach is one of her favourite activities. She spent her formative years growing up on a farm and volunteered at a wildlife rehabilitation centre bottle feeding squirrels and rescuing a baby turkey named Floyd. She discusses the benefits of outdoor education for kids.
“Learning outdoors allows us to open the classroom to the world, sparking curiosity and igniting a passion for the outdoors. Not only that, but it allows kids to explore, ask questions and guide their learning in a unique and meaningful way.”
Corrina values relationships, community, and a growth mindset and believes that supportive environments where kids feel encouraged by their community are where the best learning happens. She loves that HomeLearners Network activities bring together small groups of kiddos with similar interests while building their confidence and engaging their curiosity and creativity.
“It’s through these relationships and community building that we are able to identify and celebrate each kid’s unique and special skills and talents, allowing them to learn, thrive and grow throughout their educational journey in their own unique way.”
“I was drawn to HomeLearners Network because I love the idea of being able to reach learners wherever they are. I’m looking forward to providing memorable experiences with the added challenge of creating engaging and interesting STEAM-based activities that come to life over the screen,” she says. “For me, HomeLearners Network represents everything special about teaching and learning – imagining new and interesting things to teach and seeing learners surprised by what they can create and excited for more.”
Corrina finds inspiration in the kids she teaches, and we hope your kid is excited to be inspired by her, too!
