If you have a child with disabilities or diverse abilities, our inclusive kindergarten to Grade 12 program may be able to support you.

SelfDesign works to advance the journey towards reconciliation by building cultural bridges to Indigenous ways of being, seeing and knowing throughout our educational programs and offerings.

HomeLearners Network offers fun live learning activities that involve hands-on creativity both on and off the screen.

At SelfDesign, being accessible means creating learning and working environments that allow everyone to fully participate.

Supporting your child’s learning

Learning Resources and Services (LRS) program

The Learning Resources and Services (LRS) program is open to all SelfDesign Learning Community learners in K-9. The program allows your child to have access to learning resources and services they need to meet their learning goals and interests.

Funding for a broad range of materials and services is made available. Examples of materials include consumable items such as art supplies, science kits, and more. Examples of services include swimming lessons, dance classes, music lessons, memberships to museums, and more.

A link to the LRS Catalogue is available in the Contractor and Family Resource Centres. This resource is updated and made available annually, and it contains information that is helpful when deciding what to purchase and who to purchase from.

Our goal is to enable you to select your own service providers (e.g., for classes, lessons, etc.) wherever possible. However, please note that service providers are required to meet specific criteria in order to be approved by SelfDesign as an eligible service provider.

If your child is in grades 10 to 12, they do not participate in the LRS program because they have access to enhanced SelfDesign educational programming (e.g., workshops, group learning opportunities, etc.), most of which is offered at no cost.

Camps

One of our core beliefs at SelfDesign is that learning is enriched and amplified through conversations and relationships with others. Our seasonal camps provide opportunities for your child to connect, share and socialize with their peers in informal and impromptu ways that may not be available during online real-time meetings.

Camps allow your child to mingle with their peers, make like-minded friends, explore the outdoors and learn Indigenous ways of seeing and knowing.

Winter camps a resounding success

In person winter camps return to SelfDesign

It was unlike anything I had experienced before as a home learner. The activities were fun too, but it was the social side of the camps that made me want to go back and do it again and again. It changed me. It drew me out of my shyness and I made friends. I actually had a reason to have an Instagram account. When I started going to camps, my whole outlook and personality changed. This change was because I found like-minded people, people I liked, people my age – and through the experience of meeting these people, I was able to discover within myself what it was like to be outgoing and fun.”

– Erik, Former SelfDesign Learner

Peer-to-peer connection

Building relationships is at the core of SelfDesign’s philosophy. Over the last 20 years, SelfDesign has developed and adopted practical tools to help your child navigate online learning effectively, while helping them deepen their connection with others.

At SelfDesign, communication, sharing, and connection can happen in various online formats. These include camps, online discussions, collaborative digital spaces, virtual meetings, learner showcases, workshops, and special events. Learners can engage at the level they’re comfortable.
