In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, we talked to SelfDesign Counsellor Franya Jedwab about what she does as part of the Family Services team. Olivia, now 19 years-old, commenced from SelfDesign® with the Adult Dogwood Diploma, after having started her journey with SelfDesign in Grade 1. SelfDesign® Family Services strives to be “a steward of compassion and understanding within the SelfDesign community offering support to learners, families, Learning Consultants, mentors and contractors.” Given this, we are excited to be working with a group of keen grade 10–12 learners to launch SelfDesign’s own Gender Sexual Orientation Alliance (GSA).

At SelfDesign®, at the core of our Kindergarten to Grade 12 online learning school, is the belief that learning happens all the time, and the learner is always at centre. Learning stems from curiosity and each individual learner’s passion and interests, whether that's at home engaging with family during game night, or connecting with nature in an old-growth cedar forest... Learning happens everywhere.
Online learning at SelfDesign® is a diverse, engaging, personal experience that draws on resources far and near, in person and virtually to support learners’ individual learning journeys. We put learners at the centre of their own learning experience and allow them to determine the pathway towards meeting the required BC Ministry of Education competencies.
