As of October 1, 2021, all families, all contractors and any learners in Kindergarten to grade 12 must wear a mask anytime services are being provided indoors (in homes, offices, or learning centres and vehicles etc). There are exceptions for the following situations:
- A person who cannot tolerate wearing a mask for health or behavioural reasons, such as:
- a psychological, behavioural or health condition, or
- a physical, cognitive or mental impairment;
- A person who is unable to put on or remove a mask without the assistance of another person;
- A person is behind a barrier; or
- An individual is providing a service to a person with a disability or diverse ability (including but not limited to a hearing impairment) where visual cues, facial expressions and/or lip reading/movements are important.
- The mask is removed temporarily for the purposes of identifying the person wearing it;
- The mask is removed temporarily to engage in an educational activity that cannot be performed while wearing a mask (e.g. playing a wind instrument, engaging in high-intensity physical activity, etc.);
- A person is eating or drinking.
Wearing a mask does not replace physical distancing.
You can read the entire update to the Provincial COVID-19 Communicable Disease Guidelines for K-12 settings here. We recommend that you review the guidance on selecting and using masks here.
